Deviant of the Day

In my mind, artists are the true foundation of our society. Deviant of the Day is a blog about these people. Creatives hold the key to unlock everything exciting and wondrous about this world. Painters, photographers, chefs, sculptors, musicians, tattoo artists, engineers, designers, etc…you all blow my mind. Let’s stick to our guns and never give up.

Deviant of the Day #17 - Jesse Adelson

Jesse thrashes both on the streets and in the rehearsal space. He is a skater and a musician, playing bass and screaming vocals for Prostitution, a semi-technical blackened thrash band with a lot of melody. You can check out their band and pick up their new 7" at their 4/27 show at The Gutter, a vintage bowling alley/bar in Brooklyn. Jesse also teaches music at a NYC public high school.

Deviant of the Day #16 - Uli Aven Haley Scheffler

Uli Schpinduli is my new nickname for her...I don't think she likes it, but she has no choice but to accept it. Anyway, Uli comes to us through a mutual friend of ours who recently opened a New York City style bar & restaurant in Hamburg known as The Bird. A lot of musicians seem to flock to this hidden jewel. And yes, Uli is a musician...she plays guitar and has an amazing voice! She also works in fashion, having hosted for the Spirit of Fashion show in Berlin. You can follow Uli at "Uli's Must Have" blog on Gingar.de. Go Schpinduli!!!

Deviant of the Day #15 - Kevin Wyzzard

Kevin was outside standing on his stoop, smoking a cigarette and minding his own business, when I abruptly approached him and asked if he'd be interested in being a deviant. Kevin is a kick-ass DJ, specializing in 1970's glam rock, while also including some early 70's rock, punk, postpunk and powerpop. You can currently catch him at The Beauty Bar every other Monday night, next being 4/29.

Deviant of the Day #14 - Lara Scotton

I don't personally have any tattoos, but if I ever decide to permanently paint my skin, I'll definitely be headed straight for East Side Ink to see the lovely Lara from Milan. Check out her tattoo work and paintings here. I think the "night of the living sailor slut" tat is my favorite. Fantastic work Lara!

Having moved into NYC's infamous Chelsea Hotel in 1987, Zoe used the sex industry to support her heroin addiction. Now sober since '96, she has quite the story to tell.  She currently runs her husband's bar, Manitoba's, and has a reality show in the works. Look out for her short stories & novel Going Down in Gotham.

I'm sure you're probably wondering what the hell I'm doing promoting another photographer on my page. Answer is...I'm not quite sure. Call me crazy. But, Dana is an old friend of mine and as I was in the hunt for a female deviant, I could think of no one better than a girl who uses "Distortion" as her middle name. Plus, her work is amazing!! We met up at The Levee yesterday for a quick photo session. She'll be DJing at Motor City on the 18th. It'll be her birthday so, if you go, buy her a shot!!!

Deviant of the Day #7 - Yousouf, Maliek, Samare, Ty, Daniel, Nasson, & Terrel

I found these guys on the corner of Houston and Elizabeth. They hoop it up in the city. These guys were a blast, screaming a good ol' fashion Texas "HELL YEAH!!!" for Dimebag as I snapped the pic. I could hear "Yeehaw!!!' as they walked away into the city's horizon. Dang man.

Speaking of basketball, and not to be confused with Houston St., the Houston Rockets clinched the playoffs last night for the first time since '09!!! Totally Rad.

I directed them to stand in the intersection with their fingers pointed out. I wanted a silhouette shot. It's a bit grainy but I love what we got.
